What Students Will Learn in World Hand Drumming Class

Drumming 4 Every 1 is an inclusive and safe drumming experience where students learn the basics of rhythm, hand drum and percussion techniques, ensemble play, and timing skills while working through various parts of the World Music Drumming curriculum. After our 10-week program, students walk away with an understanding of musical concepts like call and response, son clave, counting, and other beginning musical concepts. Additionally, participants will learn to enhance their self-regulation and social skills through our community-based instructional method.

A Fun, Supportive Approach to Drumming

Learning to drum is about more than keeping a beat. For people with disabilities, group drumming classes can build confidence, communication, and connection in a fun, low-pressure setting — no matter your age. At Sound Hall Studios, we believe music should be encouraging, accessible, and joyful for everyone, and our West African Hand Drumming classes for people with disabilities are designed with that belief at the center.

Meet Your Instructor: Ray Nelson

Ray Nelson has been playing drums since age 11 and hand drums since age 26. He is a certified Drum Circle Facilitator through Village Music Circles and a Level 3 teacher of the World Music Drumming Curriculum. What began in 2019 as an opportunity for people with disabilities to enjoy facilitated drum circles grew into the Drumming 4 Every 1 adaptive curriculum in 2021. Since then, the program has expanded to include multiple classes each year and a Summer Drummer Camp.
